SmartScreen Post and Rail Case Study | Backyard Makeover
The Challenge

Strol Smartscreen - installation

Despite the beautiful rural setting, Marion’s backyard lacked clear boundaries. Her boys loved to explore, but with neighbouring farmland just beyond the fence, she worried about them wandering too far. She wanted to create a safe, enclosed space where she could keep an eye on them while they played. There was also the issue of the garden. It was overgrown on steep land, and until she found the right solution, she just needed something to hide the mess.

Hiring professionals to build a fence was out of the question. The cost alone was more than she could justify, and the thought of heavy materials and complex installations was daunting. What she needed was a simple, affordable, and stylish solution, one that she could install by herself with minimal effort.

The Solution

Decortative screen post and rail system install

Marion discovered the SmartScreen Post and Rail System, and it was exactly what she had been looking for. It ticked off lots of boxes for what she was trying to create. The SmartScreen conceal clutter for a clean, organised look. And with the SmartScreen Post and Rail System, Marion would be able to create a sleek, stylish barrier that would hide any of the garden clutter from view. Even though she was primarily creating an area for the kids, the SmartScreen system would help define spaces, so she would also be able to create a clear separation between the cooking/BBQ area and where the boys played.

She liked the idea that there was enhanced privacy for peace of mind. If ever neighbours did build on the section next door, SmartScreen would shield the space from prying eyes, allowing her to relax without feeling on display and spend as much time as she could outside.

With existing railway sleepers already in place, she realised she could easily attach the SmartScreen system to create a secure, stylish boundary. The installation process was refreshingly simple. She screwed the posts and base plates into position, the SmartScreen panels simply slotted into place, and within a few hours, the space had been completely transformed.

Because the SmartScreen system is lightweight, she didn’t struggle to handle the materials on her own. The best part? It didn’t require any specialist tools—just a standard drill bit she already had at home. And with so many designs to choose from, she was able to add a personal touch to her backyard. Coming from the city, she had grown to love the native birds visiting her property, so she chose a Flax design, a beautiful reflection of her new rural surroundings.

The Result

With the screens in place, Marion was on her way to creating the backyard she had envisioned. What was an open, exposed area was now a safe, enclosed space where her boys could play while she kept watch. The garden, although still a work in progress, was now neatly hidden behind a stylish, decorative feature. Her backyard no longer looked unfinished—it looked intentional and inviting.

For Marion, the transformation was about more than just aesthetics. There was a deep sense of satisfaction in knowing she had done it all herself. No hired labour, no unnecessary costs—just a simple, rewarding DIY project that made a real difference to her home.
