The Problem:

You’ve finally reached the end of a long and exciting journey – your new house is built, the construction mess is cleared, and everything looks pristine. But as you stand back to admire your new home, reality sets in as you realise the landscaping still needs to be done. The thought of transforming a bare, untouched yard into a beautiful, functional space can be overwhelming, especially after all the work that’s already been done. But there’s no need to stress – Strol is here to help, just like we did for Dylan when he needed a sustainable, permeable solution for his driveway.
The Solution:

Dylan’s home is situated in a hilly area with a high level of rainfall, making flooding a common concern. He needed a driveway that could withstand these conditions and handle the wear and tear from utes and other vehicles. The driveway also needed to complement the natural landscape and slow down water runoff into nearby stormwater drains and creeks.
Traditional hard surfaces like asphalt or concrete often lead to excessive runoff, overwhelming drainage systems and causing erosion. Permeable pavers, on the other hand, offer significant advantages, including:
- Reduced water runoff
- Allow water to seep evenly into the surrounding environment
- Prevent soil erosion
- Direct clean water into drainage systems
Permeable paving is most effective when used in conjunction with a geotextile like SureTex. After clearing the area down to the subsoil and levelling it, a layer of SureTex is placed to separate the aggregate and stones from the soil. This allows water to pass through at a controlled rate, preventing erosion and supporting the upper layers even if the soil shifts.
- Clear and level the area, removing any roots and rocks.
- Lay down SureTex geotextile and secure it in place.
- Cover the area with drainage aggregate and crusher dust.
- Position the permeable pavers on top, clip them together, and secure them.
- Fill the surface with your choice of material – hoggin, pebbles, or decorative chip.
The Results:

Living in the countryside, Dylan wanted a driveway that would complement the surrounding environment. “We’ve got lots of big trees and a nearby creek. We didn’t want a big slab of concrete ruining that feel. We chose a decorative stone driveway. It suits our house style, and we love the sound of driving on pebbles when we come home.”
Strol offers a variety of permeable paving solutions that blend seamlessly with your landscape. Whether you’re looking for a grassed driveway, a stabilised lawn, a pebbled pathway, or a gravel access road, Strol pavers provide year-round support for your chosen material.
“Pebbles gave us a softer look. The colours blend in well, especially with the autumn leaves, and it will be easy to carry that theme on when we do the pathways around the house.”
Dylan completed the installation in just one day with help from his kids and a digger to level the ground and spread the materials. By dinner time, the driveway was fully laid with pavers and filled with stones. Thanks to proper installation with aggregates and geotextile, maintenance is minimal -just sweep the occasional stray stone back into place. The pavers ensure the surface remains stable, preventing ruts and potholes, even in high-use areas. “It’ll add years to the lifespan of our driveway,” Dylan says. The robust design means no rutting where cars turn onto the driveway. “Every now and then, we just rake any stray stones back to cover the pavers.”
